PROJECTS

LESA GREEN BUILDING

Proposed expansion project for the  Laboratory of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Viçosa.

They were elaborated from the architectural conception to the structural launch, together with the electrical, hydraulic, photovoltaic and access and security projects, in addition to the financial analysis of the installed green technologies, proving that the building pays for itself within its useful life.

The great challenge of the project was to propose a green building, but not restricted to certification aspects. Thus, several factors were taken into account when dimensioning the building, in addition to the points raised by certifications such as LEED, AQUA-HQE, Net-zero, C2C, among others.

A detailed study of each environment was carried out, as well as an element relation matrix, factors related to the thermal load of use, occupied space and  required for handling.

COLONIAL SET

Residential complex + commercial complex, built on conventional colonial-style masonry.

Constructed area of each house    84m2
Usable area of each house
    65m2  - without garage

Built area of each store    100m2
Useful area of each store
    93m2

The project idea is  able to make the most of the environmental conditions, such as natural lighting and fans ction crusade. One  skylight is  positioned in the center builds ction, providing a portion of lights ction for all rooms, and captures ction o facilitating reuse of the rainwater trim.

Studying the flow of winds in the region, the windows were positioned to ensure  a natural ventilation that reduces the need for temperature regulating devices.

STIENS CASE

Project developed as part of the exchange program. The project consists of solving a supply problem for a local village, the village of Stiens, which suffered from problems related to urban supply demand.  O  site had expansion plans, but at the same time should be prepared to decline, a problem that is still new to many designers.

The biggest challenge of the decline of urban water supply networks is related to standing water, and to guaranteeing the quality of water in pipes subject to risks inherent to the proliferation of microorganisms in humid and dark environments.

The solution is based on the study of local consumption patterns, as well as computational analysis and the adoption of a branched, non-circular network model, with adequate slopes capable of guaranteeing that the water stays in the pipeline for as little time as possible.

MEFLEX

Meflex is a software for computational analysis of beams using the forces method, or flexibility method. The program was created as part of the evaluations in Theory of Structures II, at the Federal University of Viçosa. The code was written in Visual Basic, based on Pseudo Portuguese code, indicated by teachers Rita de Cássia Alvarenga and Márcio Sampaio S. Moreira.

The Software is a visual solution to the problem, being intuitive and extremely useful in the study of loading on beams, for educational purposes.

LOW COST BUILDING

At the client's request, the project was divided into two stages, the first  being the construction of the commercial wing, the second being the construction of a Kitnet, totaling a  170m2 development built in Mucugê-BA.

It is a building that includes several economic techniques in order to reduce the final cost of the work. Even so, the building has sustainability concepts, such as a chimney effect to improve thermal comfort, materials reused in the decoration, green panels and reuse of rainwater.

The building costs about 40% less  than the average for regional standard developments indicated by the CUB.
